LearnDash Expert Needed for Divi Website Completion - Upwork

WordPress Work From UpWork - Fri, 05/03/2019 - 19:20
I have a website started that is based on the Divi Theme, as you can see here: https://divi-learndash.peeayecreative.com/landing-page/

The Problem: It is not finished. The site is meant to be a demo site, so I installed the dummy data from Learndash and now I would like to make it into a fully functioning course website, but I do not have experience in this. Your job is to log in and take over the site as if it was your own and make sure everything is completely finished and ready to launch.

Things to note: This is meant to be a Divi child theme. When the site is finished, we will be selling the design/layouts. The content that is there is all fake dummy content. However, the site needs to be finished so that it have as many options and layouts as possible. This will probably take 5-15 hours in total.

You must be a Divi Theme user, and you must have experience with LearnDash and know how to set up courses.

Lullabot: Using Laravel’s Homestead for Drupal Projects

News from Planet Drupal - Fri, 05/03/2019 - 18:35

For a long time now, I’ve preferred Vagrant for local development. My starting point of choice for using Vagrant on a project has been the excellent trusty32-lamp VM, maintained by Andrew Berry. However, with Ubuntu 14.04 reaching end of life, Andrew thought to merge the best of trusty32-lamp VM with Laravel’s Homestead.

Developer Needed for Responsive Customized Wordpress Fantasy-Themed Site and Content Cleanup - Upwork

WordPress Work From UpWork - Fri, 05/03/2019 - 16:01
Four Feasts till Darkness began as a passion project in 2012 and has since grown into a bestselling global brand spanning five volumes of literary dark fiction and over 1 million words. We are currently planning for a brand refresh for June, including: new media, new merchandise and a new site. We are seeking a highly qualified and creative individual who can work with a classic genre concept and make it fresh and contemporary. We have a wealth of commissioned artwork and media that we would like showcased in a modern way. Reference images of the current design can be seen below, and the entire backend remains intact and can be explored by the selected applicant. The website in question was placed into maintenance mode today, and can be found here:

Responsibilities Required:
— Deliverable of the five following pages and subpages: Main, World, Store, Blog, About (Contact & Media Kit can be included in that page for simplicity’s sake).
— Deliverable of a visually stunning (using provided, rights-owned artwork) framework.
— Specific focus on the “World” and “Store” sections. Creative implementation of product and information display; sliding carousel cards used in the current site added for reference.
— Deliverable of a cleaned up backend. The site (same domain) has been “remade” twice in the last 7 years and lingering database entries, hierarchies and older shells should be removed. Image optimization, cache optimization, etc.
— Deliverable of a minimal and uncluttered backend. Few plugins, easy user interface—standard WP squares are fine.
— Deliverable and transition of current Mailchimp plugin and mailing list capability.
— Deliverable of incorporated social media functions (Instagram display, FB chat).
— Responsive and fast theme.
— One month or thereabouts turnaround time.
— Ability to begin immediately, ideally with a lump sum quote with paid milestones.

We are also seeking an individual who is available in the future for further maintenance and cleanup over time as needed. Candidates with additional skills with asset work and media compilation are ideal (for secondary media projects).

Gábor Hojtsy: Present your own "State of Drupal 9" session, get slides here!

News from Planet Drupal - Fri, 05/03/2019 - 09:27

I am about to present about Drupal 9 at DrupalCamp Belarus in May and then at Drupal Developer Days Transylvania in June . I already presented an Acquia webinar with Dries Buytaert on the topic, and was on the Lullabot Podcast discussing Drupal 9 with Angie Byron and Nathaniel Catchpole. I am a firm believer that this know-how should spread as far and wide as possible. I should not be needed to travel around the globe to present the topic and people should not spend the same time again to redo slides for their local presentations. There is no intellectual property here to hide, as many people should be aware and excited and participating as possible. The topic should be presented at Drupal Meetups, Camps, and inside your own companies. So the natural next step for me was to create an open source slideshow.

I took all that we learned from the webinar and Dries' keynote at DrupalCon Seattle as well as new technology that emerged since then. I also used a free slide template and Google Slides so you can make a copy for yourself and add your own contact information as well as edit the slides down to shorter or longer timeslots. The 51 slides in my test run for about 35 minutes, leaving 10 minutes for discussion in a 45 minute slot. You would likely need to cut content for shorter sessions. There are only basic buildup animations, so if you need to present offline that is also an option. Edit in your contact/introduction info and export and present as PDF.

The 1.0 version of the slides have been presented by Christian Fritsch at DrupalCamp Munich last week and I updated some content to the current 1.1 version as it is available now. I'll keep updating slides based on all your feedback. I shared the slides with public comments allowed, so keep the feedback coming there, comments here or some other way you can get ahold of me.

Resources to watch/listen to learn more include:

  1. Dries' State of Drupal presentation from DrupalCon Seattle
  2. Lullabot Podcast on Drupal 9
  3. Acquia Webinar on Drupal 9

Thanks to Acquia for funding me to create this slideshow and thank you for presenting it!

DEV :: Drupal, Skepticism and Spaceships...: Where is drush?

News from Planet Drupal - Thu, 05/02/2019 - 22:58
Where is drush? Unifex Fri, 05/03/2019 - 10:58

Part of me is suspecting that I may be one of the lucky 10,000 today but I figure it's worth putting this out there because if I wasn't aware of this then there may be others too. It turns out that the version of Drush that you just installed may not be the version of Drush that executes your command.

So, as it happens there's a number of ways to install Drush. Older OSs may have it in the package management system, you may have just installed it globally using the instructions on the site, or, if your project is managed by composer it may have been installed as a site-local version. In my case I had messed it up just a little and had multiple versions hanging around and, despite having definitely downloaded and installed drush 8.2.3 to /usr/local/bin/drush and I confirmed that this was being called via which drush when I ran drush --version it informed me I was running version 9.6.2.

The thing that I didn't know... Drush will check the directory the site is in to see if there is a local-site version installed and pass off the request to that. So despite having Drush 8.2.3 installed and called from the command line the request was finding the local copy and returning results from that. If it wasn't for the fact that this was a Drupal 7 site and I'd inadvertently installed Drush 9.x locally via composer (Drush 9.x doesn't support Drupal 7.x) I'd never have known that this was how it worked.

Big thanks to Kirill for correcting my brain meat on this.

Wordpress Designer/Developer needed - Upwork

WordPress Work From UpWork - Thu, 05/02/2019 - 18:46
Brief for the design & development of a Wordpress business website for our financial services client that provides Insolvency and Bankruptcy Solutions for individuals and businesses in the UK.

The client would hope to commence approx. May 20th 2019.

Requirements from the Web Designer/developer
Please provide us with an overall total cost for
• Design &
• Development (on the Word Press platform)
(all written content and imagery will be supplied by the client prior to project commencement)

Please also provide additional costs and terms and conditions for
• Ad hoc maintenance (price per hour)
• Applicable hosting for this stack for year 1
• Word Press training (for ½ day)

Please also provide us with
• An idea of your payment terms (i.e. X% upfront payment, Y% on provision and sign off of wireframes and Z% final payment)
• Time schedule for this job (allow for 1 day maximum turnaround time for client feedback  - although I’m sure it will be quicker)
• Links to recently completed Word Press websites in this last 2 years.

Next steps
The client will make their choice based on developer experience and costs. Following this decision the client will then supply the designer/developer with written content/imagery and additional material (audience personas, company branding/positioning information, best practice competitor examples) to provide more contexts for the design & build

Please get in contact should you require any more information in order to help you provide us with a price for the job.

Below we have outlined the key requirements and features for this website:

Key requirements

The Client has not chosen a specific Wordpress theme as of yet, instead we thought it best to outline the key features the website need and then make a decision with the successful web team’s guidance.
Key Wordpress features to include:

• One Page layout (Display key content from selected pages of website site on one cohesive, scrolling page – secondary content accessed on click through links)

• Responsive layout approximately 80% of the clients customers engage UK financial information on their phones,  thus their website needs to be designed primarily with the smart phone interface in mind but must also look great on PC/MAC/Tablet also so you will need to use a Word press template that is responsive.

• SEO.  In tandem with impactful design and a stellar user experience, bulletproof SEO is the client’s other No.1# priority and has stipulated that the following must be catered for in the build:
• The planning and development of a site structure that is SEO friendly and allows search engines to easily crawl/explore and read pages across the site ensuring visibility in the search engine result pages
• Correctly structured navigation, correctly sign posting users to most relevant parts of site
• Correct indexing with images, videos, PDFs and content discoverable and indexable.
• Linkages:  primary navigation, search engine directives and XML sitemaps (if required) and correct internal link structure to aid the search engine crawling
• Proper URL naming conventions to provide more content for humans and search engines.
• Correct use of sub folders rather than sub domains
• Submitted correctly to search engines
• No flash usage
• Lean & mean pages to increase page speed
• optimised for search engines such as Google, Safari and Firefox as well as using a Mobile First Optimisation that will include:

• Custom background, colours, headers, menu

• Fixed menu as viewed on Desktop but collapsed on phone view

• There is no eCommerce requirement on this project.

• No of columns (not sure yet until we have written content finished)

Additional site requirements
• Website to have a Blog section that will grow overtime – webdesiger to recommend options.
• Portfolio section for Case Studies – it will have approx. 3 pages initially but will expand over time and should be editable by client.

Site Structure
To reiterate from above, the client would like a One-Page layout where key content will be displayed on one cohesive scrolling page.  Links on the one page layout will then take the user to secondary layer for more in-depth exploration (e.g blog articles, case studies etc)

Proposed site structure (approx. 10 pages)
• Home Page (with impactful company intro + value propositions)
• About Us
• Services (approx. 5 separate pages)
• Case Study (portfolio section that client can expand over time)
• Blog Section
• Contact Us

Please get in contact should you require any additional information in order to help you arrive at more accurate costs for this project.

Drupal In the News: Drupal 8.7.0 release marks rigorous, unique update to Drupal 8

News from Planet Drupal - Thu, 05/02/2019 - 17:54

Release offers all-new stable layout builder, meets web accessibility guidelines
Washington D.C., Wednesday, May 1, 2019 - The Drupal community announces an update to Drupal 8. This new version — Drupal 8.7.0 — is a leap forward in the Drupal content manager experience as a creative tool streamlining workflows and improving efficiency within teams. Drupal 8.7.0 also maintains the project's commitment to web content accessibility guidelines, enabling screen readers or keyboards to navigate options — meaning this version is accessible to all.
Drupal's newly stable Layout Builder module enables a drag-and-drop editing experience, which means no custom code or theming is required in order to lay out pages. But Drupal goes far beyond similar offerings by competitors, empowering content editors with increased power and flexibility: enabling management of templated layouts, support for powerful overrides based on content-type, and support for one-off landing pages.
“Not only can this version support basic use cases, it also supports advanced use cases,” said Drupal Founder Dries Buytaert. “These types of templated layouts and workflow updates are not available in competitors’ layout building tools.”
Drupal 8.7.0 provides significant improvements over all past versions of Drupal, particularly by including JSON:API as a stable module in core. By enabling the JSON:API module, all Drupal entities such as blog posts, users, tags, comments and more become accessible via the JSON:API web service API. This is a powerful, standards-compliant, web service API to pull content into JavaScript applications, digital kiosks, chatbots, voice assistants and more. This propels Drupal further into the lead among headless content management systems, making it the clear choice for the backbone of digital experiences beyond the web.
Drupal 8.7.0 provides the JSON:API for reading and modifying resources, interacting with relationships between resources, and filtering, sorting, and pagination of resource collections. It also supports complex workflows, allowing for a staging or approval process.
Tim Lehnen, Executive Director of the Drupal Association, said, “Drupal 8.7 is a milestone release for the Drupal project. It simultaneously extends Drupal's lead as a powerful, API-first content framework, and leapfrogs competitors' tools for content editors.”

In addition to being incredibly powerful, JSON:API is easy to learn and put into practice, and uses all the existing tooling to test, debug, and scale Drupal sites.

“This feels like the dawn of a new chapter for Drupal and its authoring experience and we’re certain we’ve only scratched the surface,” said Caroline Casals, a developer at Phase2 - a digital experience agency.
Overall, this version streamlines the user experience for Drupal content creators and site builders, allowing front-end developers to work easily and efficiently. More than two years’ of commits from the open source community built this rigorous release.
“On behalf of the Drupal Association and the Drupal community, I want to thank all of the contributors who made the Drupal 8.7.0 release possible,” Lehnen said.
