Database optimization for Wordpress site with WooCommerce - Upwork

WordPress Work From UpWork - Thu, 03/23/2017 - 20:44
Overview: I have a Wordpress site hosted on WPEngine, running WooCommerce Subscriptions. The site has been around for a few years. We have 4 installs - Production, Staging, Test and Dev.

Issue: Lately, we are seeing a lot of 502 errors when using WP-Admin. They especially peak when all our subscription renewals happen (they are synced to happen every Thursday). In the error logs during this time, I see things like this -

[Thu Mar 23 07:16:17.881615 2017] [:error] [pid 20924] [client 104.154.28.35:20689] WordPress database error Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting transaction for query DELETE FROM wp_mmfo_options WHERE option_name LIKE '\\_transient\\_%\\_473ZZ1' /* From [driftaway.coffee/wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron=1490253315.1729071140289306640625] in [/nas/content/live/driftaway/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/inc/class-wpseo-utils.php:579] */ made by do_action_ref_array, call_user_func_array, ActionScheduler_QueueRunner->run, ActionScheduler_QueueRunner->do_batch, ActionScheduler_QueueRunner->process_action, ActionScheduler_Action->execute, do_action_ref_array, call_user_func_array, WC_Subscriptions_Payment_Gateways::gateway_scheduled_subscription_payment, do_action('woocommerce_scheduled_subscription_payment_stripe'), call_user_func_array, WC_Gateway_Stripe_Addons->scheduled_subscription_payment, WC_Gateway_Stripe_Addons->process_subscription_payment, WC_Abstract_Order->payment_complete, WC_Abstract_Order->update_status, wp_update_post, wp_insert_post, clean_post_cache, clean_object_term_cache, do_action('clean_object_term_cache'), call_user_func_array, wpseo_invalidate_sitemap_cache_terms, wpseo_invalidate_sitemap_cache, WPSEO_Utils::clear_sitemap_cache, WPSEO_Utils::invalidate_sitemap_cache, WPSEO_Utils::cleanup_sitemap_database_cache
[Thu Mar 23 07:16:43.716823 2017] [:error] [pid 20924] [client 104.154.28.35:20689] WordPress database error Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting transaction for query DELETE FROM wp_mmfo_options WHERE option_name LIKE '\\\\_transient\\\\_%1490253396' ORDER BY option_id LIMIT 1000; /* From [driftaway.coffee/wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron=1490253315.1729071140289306640625] in [/nas/content/live/driftaway/wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/includes/class-wc-cache-helper.php:140] */ made by do_action_ref_array, call_user_func_array, ActionScheduler_QueueRunner->run, ActionScheduler_QueueRunner->do_batch, ActionScheduler_QueueRunner->process_action, ActionScheduler_Action->execute, do_action_ref_array, call_user_func_array, WC_Subscriptions_Payment_Gateways::gateway_scheduled_subscription_payment, do_action('woocommerce_scheduled_subscription_payment_stripe'), call_user_func_array, WC_Gateway_Stripe_Addons->scheduled_subscription_payment, WC_Gateway_Stripe_Addons->process_subscription_payment, WC_Abstract_Order->payment_complete, WC_Abstract_Order->update_status, wc_delete_shop_order_transients, WC_Cache_Helper::get_transient_version, WC_Cache_Helper::delete_version_transients

On talking to WP-Engine support, they believe the root cause is the large number of requests  that go un cached and take a while they get killed by the server and send this 502 error. With the build up of content in the database, and the amount of un cached requests, they are just taking too long to complete.

What I am looking for: I am looking for a DBA expert who has worked on similar DB optimization projects in Wordpress & WooCommerce.

I see this being done in two phases:
Phase #1 - Analyze the site and database and provide recommendations (if you have an example that you have done in the past, it'll be great to see the template / structure you have used in the past). The recommendations should be prioritized, with estimates for implementing the recommendations.
Phase#2 - Implementing selected recommendations from Phase 1 after review

Please provide a Fixed price estimate for Phase 1. Let me know if there are any questions!

[HELP] Looking for plugin to allow access of specific page/post from specific referrer (ie: email)

Talk about plugins - Thu, 03/23/2017 - 16:41

Are there any plugins that work at the page/post level to restrict access based on the referrer?

I'm trying to create a page that is only accessible via link sent and clicked via email. If not, then the user is redirected to the registration page for that piece of content.

I've been searching for over hour still no dice. I'm not looking for a memberhsip plugin, I just want email subscribers and when they get my email to view the page.

I also don't want non-subscribers to have access to the page, which is why the email referral is important.

I'd hate to add a piece of hand coded php to the page just to achieve this.

[HELP] Alternatives to CoSchedule?

Talk about plugins - Thu, 03/23/2017 - 15:08

CoSchedule is a plugin that lets you write social media updates for all platforms from within your Wordpress dashboard and helps you schedule these. Say, you want to promote a post on the day it's published, on the next day, a week later and a month later. You can write different updates for each occurence and platform. Unfortunately, CoSchedule is now terminating its legacy plans and will get much more expensive -from less than 100 USD/year to 60 USD/month. Can someone recommend a similar plugin? It doesn't have to be free. I noticed that similar questions have been asked in the forum a year and two years ago (when CoSchedule first started raising prices), but unfortunately the OPs didn't get any answers. Thanks!

Custom WordPress Template Designer Needed - Upwork

WordPress Work From UpWork - Thu, 03/23/2017 - 14:07
We are in need of a WordPress expert who can custom design at least two templates for our info-resource pages. Our company publishes health, science, and research content on 50+ disease-specific, niche websites. Among the different types of content we publish (news, social media, blogs, and resource pages), we are looking for custom templates for our info/resource pages that make them more engaging to the user.

Our pages tend to be about one of two topics -- therapies and disease-related topics. Therefore, we'd like to have two templates -- one that works for our pages about therapies, and another for non-therapy pages.

We'd like the page templates to be designed so that they have a pre-set design that includes a graphical, info page-like look and feel, where the headline, sub-headings, body text, an embedded video or picture, and other elements are pre-defined, and all the writer and editor has to do is plug these elements in on the back end.

The therapy page design would likely feature some sort of "timeline" graphic that would allow the writer to plug in different points along the line, as well as hyperlinks to corresponding news articles, as well as a graphical section where key bullet points could be added next to icons/graphics. The non-therapy page template would have some kind of navigation box that would feature related pages and links, as well as as additional areas for adding facts and info next to graphics.

On all templates, a video embed area would be needed as well. The key for a successful project is to make these pages visually appealing and engaging, as well as easy to use for the writers and editors on the back end.

Candidates for this job should have fluent English and strong communication skills, proven experience and expertise with WordPress and templates, and examples of their work. We would like to see links and/or screenshots of developed page templates (see the back-end interface would be a plus).

Please also indicate the number of billable hours likely needed to complete the project.

Currently using Avada wordpress theme which uses Fusion Builder and Fusion Slider but it also includes revolution slider.

[HELP] Alert plugin for new WordPress posts

Talk about plugins - Wed, 03/22/2017 - 23:26

Alerts are ubiquitous on the web... with a circular indication that there are new notices to view. Does anyone know of a plugin that will allow placement of a widget to show an "alert" when there is a new website blog post? I suppose these would be connected to a browser's cache? Dunno... I have not seen one.

Simple WordPress Site Needed ASAP - Upwork

WordPress Work From UpWork - Wed, 03/22/2017 - 20:57
Hi Upworkers!

Our company needs a very basic Wordpress site completed. All the instructions are neatly layed out in a google doc with all login info to godaddy, wordpress, envato.

All content is there already...its a really simple site that's needed...nothing fancy.

We purchased a GEM theme and the hardest part of this project may be stripping the theme down to reflect just the content we want to show.

Not the most exciting web dev gig, but will definitely lead to other projects if you can do it quickly and efficiently.

We made the mistake of hiring an idiot on Fiverr who faked being American, and then didn't delivery, so the first step of this project is checking our google doc, logging in to his work and deciding if you can just fix up what he did, or if its easiest to just start from scratch.

Who's rescuing this project?

We have a quote for building a donation portal (matching the site appearance, shopping cart, high security etc.) into our WordPress site, but the estimate is contradicted by Beanstream by a 30-40 workhour margin. Does anyone have experience with this/ a ballpark estimate of how many hours it should take to implement?
